National Advocacy and Action Goals:
- To pursue information and to advocate and take action
at Federal level on Resolutions taken at the 33rd Triennial Conference
in 2006 and at the IFUW 29th Conference in 2007; also on Resolutions
of continuing relevance from earlier AFUW and IFUW Triennial Conferences
and the AFUW Indigenous Education Conference of 1998.
- To respond to developing situations within the framework
of AFUW objectives and policies.
- To continue to develop our links with the National Women’s
Secretariats established by the Office for Women, in particular the
Security 4 Women and WomenSpeak groups, and to participate in OfW meetings
wherever possible.
- To develop our public profile by active participation
in community consultations called by the Office for Women or by other
relevant Federal, State or local government bodies.
Structural and Operational Goals:
- To develop a strategic plan for future of AFUW through
the following measures:
- Increasing membership, with particular attention to
the recruitment and mentoring of younger members and the retention of
existing members;
- Establishing a Working Party to consider the implications
of changes to IFUW Membership rules made at the 29th IFUW Conference
in August 2007 and to recommend appropriate action if any is needed
to bring AFUW Membership rules into conformity;
- Developing a website which can be a showpiece for AFUW;
- Developing procedures for streamlining Council meetings
and decision-making, especially through the use of email voting and
telephone conferencing;
- Refining and strengthening the effective working of
the Federal Executive Structure;
- Developing a strategy for the future management of the
Education Trust funds;
- Obtaining tax exempt status for AFUW Inc and gaining
Donor Gift Recipient status for the Education Trust Fund;
- Recommending to the 34th Triennial Conference an amendment
to By-Law 6 (1) to the effect that there should be a division of Council’s
Standing Committees into Policy and Administrative Committees and that
the relationship of these to Council should be re-defined;
- Strengthening the role of the Education, Status of Women
and Peace and Human Security Standing Committees in developing policy
and lobbying documents;
- Strengthening the link between the national body of
AFUW and the State and Territory Associations through an improved Communications
system;
- Planning for a 34th Triennial Conference in Sydney in
2009 which will have broad appeal to the membership and the general
public
International Goals:
- To play an active part in the IFUW Conference in Manchester
in August 2007 by presenting AFUW’s Constitutional and other Resolutions;
and by supporting AFUW’s nominations for IFUW Officers and Committee
Members.
- To pursue internationally the policies of IFUW, especially
those resolved upon at the 29th IFUW Conference in August 2007, and
to take, as appropriate, actions recommended by the IFUW 2007–2010
Programme for Action.
- To take an active part in IFUW work during the 2007–2010
triennium through AFUW members on the IFUW Status of Women, Fellowship,
Projects and Hegg Hoffett Committees.
- To make preparations for AFUW participation in the 30th
IFUW Conference in Mexico in 2010.
- To continue to work for the further development of the
Pacific Graduate Women’s Network and the fulfilment of its objectives
as defined in its constitution.
- To proceed with planning for a PGWNet Council Meeting
to be held in conjunction with the AFUW Triennial Conference in Sydne
